Elizabeth had finished school for the day; luckily for her she had also finished that essay which was due in tomorrow so that was one less thing down, still though she had a few bits from English. Great thing about this year she was not doing mathematics, why did a fashion designer or someone who wanted to be a fashion designer need mathematic? Well from her point they didn’t.
She chained her bike up in front of the old dusty book store that she worked in before walking into the room. The string smell of age, paper and cinnamon hit her nose; she was also use to that smell. She heard the bird chirp from behind the counter, the owner always kept his bird in its cage; though it would never fly away at least it didn’t when Eliza let it out.
“Hello there.” She said to it and put her bag down behind the counter before changing the bird seeds. “Mr Arch I’m here you can go for your cup of tea and biscuits.” She said looking over her shoulder as an old man bent over walked out from one of the shelves taking his glasses off his big nose. His blue eyes glazed over and he smiled. “Oh Mr Arch you’re all worn out… why don’t you go sit down, I’ll handle everything out here.” She said making sure the old man left.
This was not just a book store, an old one at that. The bottom of the building was the store, upstairs was Mr Arch’s house. Eliza let the bird out of the cage as it hoped on one of her fingers chirping away as Eliza listened to it. Though the store was old and not very well lit it was a very common book store always getting in new old books and holding books of ancient stories and myths.
Eliza walked around the store, it did not look dusty at all, why should it, she had cleaned it all yesterday. She smiled at how clean it was in. “Now don’t be like that, well get some customers… some older un childish ones too.” She said back to the bird which was going on about some kids that kept causing trouble. She’d kick their little butts if they came by again.
She walked back behind the counter and pulled the stool to her side changing the radio station from the news onto the classical channel, not something she really wanted to listen to but the only thing Mr arch would let her listen to, was this or the news and the news was ever so boring. She sat down and pulled out her English book, Pride and Prejudice, a book she had to read and do a book review on. She had her small note book beside her and the ballpoint feathery pen at the ready as the bird just sat on the cash register watching the front of the store.

Lucifer was walking down the street as though he owned the world. The reason for that was, of course, because he assumed he did. He didn't have any particular purpose in mind at the moment. There was work to be done, as there always was, but nothing that required his personal attention. He had legions of followers to do what he needed. What he wanted now was just something to fill the time between when he gave his orders and when his servants told him that his plans had succeeded.
He didn't travel alone, of course. Seven lesser demons followed him, all with some minor purpose. One, for example, carried Lucifer's black sword under his coat. Two were bodyguards, of a sort. Though Lucifer did not need much guarding, if any at all, they would serve to deal with any angles who might try to do him harm. He could not be bothered to fight them himself.
Lucifer walked in a perfectly straight line, never bothering to move around someone. Mortals, angels, and demons all got out of his way. Some of them did it because they knew who he was. Most of them, though, had no idea who they were standing so close to. Their fear came from Lucifer's own empathic powers. He nurtured the fear in the deepest parts of their hearts until, for no reason they could have explained to anyone, they were terrified of the man walking towards them.
The Demon of Pride stopped in front of an old bookstore. he sensed a presence inside. One of the halfbreeds who so puzzled the other immortals. Lucifer turned his omniscience on the bookstore and on the halfbreed inside. She was not even slightly important to him, but it might prove amusing.
Cigarette, Lucifer ordered one of the demons standing next to him. He did not bother with spoken words. He took the cigarette from the demon and put it between his lips. Light. A different demon responded, lighting it for him. Lucifer took a long drag and entered the bookstore. Stand outside, he ordered his retinue. I will summon you if I desire you. Otherwise, do not disturb me.

Elizabeth looked up when she heard the front door open; she noticed a rather tall man walk through the door and then glanced to the bird who chirped a few times. She smiled a little “See I told you we’d get a customer.” She whispered to it and then glanced back to the guy, great he was smoking, how rude. She could not exactly yell at him for smoking and the old man who owned this place smoked, sometimes inside. When Eliza was there though she made him go outside.
She pulled out the metal ash tray from under the bench and spoke to the man. “If you desire to be so rude and smoke inside please put your ashes in the ash tray.” She said putting the ash tray on the end of the bench.
She then went back to her book which was making no sense at the moment. She hated the characters, well some of then. She could not decide if she liked Mr Darcy or not. The bird chirped and distracted Eliza and she looked to it and then put her book mark into her book putting her stuff below the bench. She had to agree with the bird, there was something strange about this man but she did not know what it was. She picked up the bird and put him back into his cage where he kept carrying on but it was for his own good, hopefully he would not draw the attention of her boss out, the old man needed rest.
She then looked back to the man and put her hands in her pockets “Is there anything in particular you were looking for?” she could not help him unless she knew what it was he wanted. She watched him seriously thinking on kicking him out even though she had no reason to. He did not look like a book collector.

Lucifer was more or less content to simply ignore Elizabeth. When she asked if he was looking for something, he decided to admit that she existed. He turned towards her and, very deliberately, flicked some ash from the tip of his cigarette onto the floor. He fixed her with one of his most moderate stares. There was no need to freeze her heart or anything. Ordinary attempts at intimidation would do just fine, at least for now. "Do you always pester your customers? How discourteous of you."
He turned back to a bookshelf, not bothering to actually read what was on it. Though he did not bother to look at Elizabeth, he continued speaking to her in a calm, almost emotionless voice. He pulled smoe details out of her thoughts. Minor ones that he could use very well. Her employer's name. His age. His smoking habit. All of it fit quite nicely.
"It is a shame you are going to be out of work soon, Elizabeth. Once Mr. Arch passes on, I'm afraid you will be quite out of work. His old lungs cannot quite handle his favorite vice much longer. I suppose it will not be a total loss. You will at least be permitted to care for his bird."

When he flicked the bit of ash onto the floor Eliza’s eyes focussed down and she clenched her jaw tightly before she relaxed again not thanks to her little bird friend who was still chirping. When he spoke she looked from the ash and then to him and smiled to herself a little. He was being a cocky bastard.
“Do you always try and piss people off... how discourteous of you.” She said raising one eyebrow as she looked to him, unfortunately for her she had also taken on her father attitude from time to time and did not always think before speaking.
When he kept talking Eliza frowned a little she noticed a group of men out the front and frowned before looking back to the guy. He better not start trouble. When he said her name she blinked, how did he know that she was not wearing a name badge. Then he also knew Mr Arch’s name and the fact he smoked and was old. What was this guy up to. Where had he gotten his information from, this wasn’t one of her father’s jokes again was it?
“For your information Mr Arch is in his late 60’s I still think he has a far few years left in him...” if the bird lived until he died then she’d gladly take it if not so be it. She guessed what this guy was trying to do, teenage boys tried it on her and normally she manipulated their emotions, they didn’t even know it was happening to them, but she wasn’t about to try it on this guy, there was still something about him that creped her out.
She made a face behind the guys head before walking over to “Did my father send you?” she asked taking the cig from his hand and then walked over putting it into the ash tray burning it out and then turned to face him “If you want to keep up your tough guy act I suggest a breath mint, bad breath can destroy a reputation...” hell she had seen a footy guy who had had a bad breath while trying to hit on a girl, never turned out well.

Though he didn't bother to look away from the bookshelf when she took his cigarette, Lucifer's lips twitched into a smile. Another one, he ordered one of his people outside. One of his servants entered the store and handed another cigarette. Lucifer smoked for precisely one reason: it tended to annoy others. Light. His servant lit him up, then turned and exited. He ignored her statement about a tough guy act. The question about her father was rather interesting, though.
"You could say your Father sent me here," Lucifer answered. Not the father she meant, though. Your fahter doesn't love you.... he whispered telepathically. Odds were she wouldn't know where that thought came from. She might associate it with him, or she might just think it came to her randomly. "I don't suppose you have any books on Mayan prophesies." The fact that they had predicted that something would happen on the Day of Eden intrestesd him. It was something that could be looked into.
Lucifer, in spite of what he often said, could not see the future. He could guess, and was often right, but he was no prophet. But if someone else had done the prophesying for him, so much the better. He did not expect to find anything useful here, but it couldn't hurt to ask. He could have just swept the library with his omniscience and known all that was within it, but that took the fun out of it.
He turned to her and, looking her in the eye, clicked more ash on the floor.

Eliza saw some or rather a man walk in and hand this guy another cigarette. She frowned and made a face not happy. This guy was really getting on her nerves even though she trying not to let him. Oh she hated people like him.
She tilted her head. Was he trying to confuse her because it was working a little. She could say her father sent him but maybe her father didn’t send him, man now she’d be trying to work that out all day. She seemed to stand a little straighter at the sudden thought she had and frowned, where had that one come from. She blinked a few times before frowning even more and then snapped out of it looking to the guy as he asked for a book on Mayan Prophesies.
Just as she was about to answer he put more ash on the floor and Eliza took in a deep breath before replying “I’ll go have a look…” she said curing several nasty things about him in her own thoughts before walking out the back to see if they had what he wanted.
A few noises, bangs and crashes were made before a few minutes passed and out walked Eliza blowing some hair from her face and placed a box onto the counter with a loud bang before opening it. “Is there a certain type of Mayan Prophecy you were looking for?” she asked him pulling out files before she reached the books under it, she did not know what types of Mayan books they had but she did know they had some in stock, four or something like it. She then pulled out one with a red leather cover and a gold lock.
“Ah maybe this one… it talk about the Day of Eden… or at least what I can make out of it…” she said it also talked about a lot of other things that had not made much sense to her but it had been a good bit of reading. Best thing about working in a books store filled with old books was you got to read them all at some stage. “It’s not cheap though, there are very few of these left… this one is in good condition though.” She added opening the book “The pages are not too worn, the text is only a little faint but the ink has soaked the page well so it will not fade for many decades…” as she flipped through it she then closed it and locked it again “No pages are due to fall out any time soon and the lock is in perfect condition. Of course if this is not the one you want we have a few more books on Mayan prophesies.” She said glancing back into the box before looking up to him.

"The Day of Eden," Lucifer mused, picking up the book. He looked at it closed in his hand for a few moments. "That might be moderately useful. Of course, the Day of Eden has come and gone. A history book if of little use to me. What I need is a prophecy that deals with what happens after the Day of Eden." The Demon of Pride took a long drag from his cigarette. Then he ashed it next to the tray she had provided.
"Do you even know what the Day of Eden was, Elizabeth? It is such a pity that so many who lived through it understood it. And of those who knew what was happening, it seems that I and I alone really knew what it all meant. They were right when they said it was the end of the world. They just didn't know how it was going to happen."
He closed his eyes and searched the book for a moment. Then, he set it back down. "Page ninety-two is dog-eared." To one of his servants, he called, Bring my credit card. To Elizabeth, he said, "And what do you expect me to pay for this?"

Eliza looked to him and frowned a little, what happened after the day of Eden, well who knew that? She didn’t know of any prophecies that talked about after the day of Eden only of what happened before and during. She looked to the ash, well wasn’t in the ash tray but it was getting closer. She just looked back to him.
“Ah something about impending doom on humans and the end of the world or something… I don’t know.” She said a shrugged. She was still bothered by the fact he knew her name when she had not given it to him, she was so having a talk with her father when she got home. Then he kept talking and it didn’t make a lot of sense to her, he sounded like someone who had just come from the loony bin.
She smiled to herself “Well that’s easy.” She said and shrugged “If were lucky a meteor will come and destroy us all before the final day of Eden…” she said and then pulled out another file flipping her finger over the lines looking for the code for the book, not knowing the price off by heart when he asked how much.
She found it and glanced to him. “Well…” she said and turned the file around “They say it is worth that much but I’ll take few dollars off if you have a problem with page ninety-two being dog eared.” She said looking to him. How did he know things? Eliza was intrigued by him, curious and also wanted to slap him for being so rude, by gosh if she didn’t work here she’d already have slapped him.

Lucifer shook his head, turning away from her while one of his minions paid for the book. He ignored what she said about the price. It was negligable to him. "No, Elizabeth, it will not be a meteor. The end will come from something else that fell from the heavens, a long time ago." He decided he might as well have a little fun with her. Clearly, she had no idea who she was dealing with. Giving her a clue might help. So he switched to telepathy, speaking directly in her mind. To add to the effect, he spoke verbally as he did the same telepathically.
Shall I tell you what the Day of Eden truly is?
"I do hope you are not too upset when Mr. Arch passes."
No. But perhaps I shall tell you of your purpose.
"That smoking really will be the death of him, you know."
You, Elizabeth, will be the instrument of Mortality's destruction. You and your brethren.
"Such a filthy habit," Lucifer amused, clicking more ash on the floor.
You are my tools, the implements with which I will bring about the apocalypse.
"And I would hate to think of what damage the second-hand smoke is doing to your lungs, Elizabeth."
You have a purpose in this universe. My purpose.
Lucifer paused at the doorway to grind his cigarette beneath his heel, into the floor. His servant opened it for him. Lucifer didnt' say anhthing more out loud, but he continued projecting his thoughts at Elizabeth even as he walked away.
You will do my will whether you realize it or not. You and all the others of your kind. It is only a matter of time now. The destruction of Mankind will come from your hands, girl. I cannot wait to see how you deal with that.
[[OC: You can follow him outside if you want. If not, that's cool.]]

Elizabeth looked to the guy as he was going to pay for the other one, was he so low in life that he couldn’t even pay for his own darn book. She took the card doing the sale be. She didn’t look up when he said he wasn’t going to be a meteor, yea he must have come from the loony room, either that or he was some rich spoilt man who couldn’t do anything himself.
She looked up thinking he had said ’Shall I tell you what the Day of Eden truly is?’ and frowned before she could even respond he was opening his mouth talking again which made her frown more, who was he! He was being so horrible and speaking about her boss in such a way… ok so he was not really being mean on the subject she just hated the way he said it, but when he stopped talking she kept hearing him. That bit she did not get it was like he was inside her head, somehow.
One sentence stuck out more then the others as he turned to leave ’You have a purpose in this universe. My purpose.’ She stiffened a little standing up straighter and blinked a scowl forming on her face. If it was him saying those things then how was he doing it and what did he mean she was his purpose? Now she would not be able to focus on her schoolwork she’d be too busy trying to figure out what he was saying… what her thoughts were saying but in his voice.
Once he’d left she looked to the floor where he’d dropped his cig and grinded it into the floor. She took in a deep breath angry and was contemplating on walking out after him. The fact was he had spoken directly into her mind and she had not registered the fact he had said that the destruction of mankind would be by her hands, when it did she smiled a little, yea right! She grabbed the cloth under the bench and cleaned up his mess before getting the broom and cleaned up his mess on the floor.
((I thought I’d just leave her inside seeing it is in the history section, that way the thread is finished))
