Hundreds of years ago, a place called Acanthus, existed. A very green place, with the exception of fall and winter. Three wolf packs lived upon it, going by the names of Axiom, Osment, and Calyx. The packs were very different, but somehow maintained peace, all the Alphas deciding that a war wasn't needed.
The Axiom Pack, lead by an elderly wolf named Xander, was full of strong and dark wolves, who kept to themselves, most of the time, not disturbing the other packs, unless needed. And when they did, they did it carefully, using their smarts and wisdom.
The Osment Pack, led by a very much in love Gillus and Etheral, were smart and happy. Very carefree and always liking to mind their own business, never interfering with other packs, unless desperately in need, of which they never seemed to be.
And Lastly, the Calyx pack, led by Kismet. The wolves, being the by far most intelligent, and well-mannered pack in the entire place, but being a tad bit on the emotionless side with outsiders, and more opened up to their own pack members, which is probably what made them so smart.
Ah yes, these three packs lived in peace, until one day, when Xander grew too old and sick to watch over his pack any longer. He only had one child through his whole 10 years of living. And that son was the dark Devonté. He told Devonté to become leader of the pack, for thats how things worked those hundrerd of years ago. A dying leader must give his position to his first born. And in this case, the only born, Devonté.
Devonté was an evil wolf, who was greedy and only wished for power. But not all his decisions were deadly, though a majority of them were. He was, in fact, the one who created the Beta system in the packs, which was probably the best decision he made. But eventually, he grew bored of owning such a tiny slice of this large area. Why couldn't he have it all?
So, Devonté began to plan surprise attacks on the other packs with his members, telling them they could have more and more land. This, of course, got the members excited. He then began to only plan with his Beta, Halcyon, to keep the members anticipated. Their first strike was on Osment. Devonté and Gillus fought, and eventually, Gillus was defeated, the older wolf not standing a chance against the younger muscular wolf. Before Devonté could kill Etheral, he was stopped by Kismet, the leader of the Calyx pack. Devonté and his troops scattered. He didn't have enough wolves to take on two packs.
Year after year, Devonté's pack grew larger. He continued to attack Calyx and Osment, until he could get to them. then, when Calyx finally seemed weakened enough, he decided to attack them. But a spy from Osment heard the news, and sent it immediately to the Calyx pack. Etheral, filled with rage, attacked Devonté to stall time for Kismet. She ran before any serious damage could be dealt to her. She and Kismet had a plan.
As soon as Devonté met up with Kismet, he was ambushed by Etheral at the same time, and even his own pack members who were tired of his killings. He was chased back to his pack lands. He ran through the woods, but was cut off my the river. He was killed on his own pack lands, but left the other Alphas brutally scarred, who eventually died later on. All wolves gave up hope of the bloodstained lands, and left, for a very long time.
The story of the lands of Acanthus have been passed on from generation to generation. And now, wolves are returning to the lands, some knowing none of what happened, others knowing the whole story. But as the wolves come back, secrets of the fights come flooding back. Many wolves in the Axiom pack are untrusted for they are believed to have the long lost bloodline of Devonté's. Quite possibly a "missing link". Because of the bad treatment the Axiom's are getting, many others are afraid that they may attack again. But could one of the other packs attack first? And is there an even bigger threat coming from newcomers who are thinking of taking their own bit of territory in the lands of Acanthus?
Whose side are you on?
