Silently he watches the sunday morning church session, listening the the pastor talk about the mercy of God, that his judgement will one day come down upon this planet and those who hold their faith in Him strong in their hearts will be spared when the rapture comes, when this world comes to and end. Uriel can't help but frown a little, these people have no idea how close to the rapture they really are. Lucifer walks the earth with his demons and cohorts, they use lies and empty promises to draw humans and half-breeds into their fold to fight on their side, how easy it is for them to fall into the hands of evil. A war is coming, and not all of these people will survive, all Uriel can do is hope and try to steer those who have become lost back onto the path to Heaven.
As the sermon comes to an end Uriel joins the others in the cathedral in a prayer to God. Uriel asks for the strength to lead these people to the Lord and to be able to continue his work in punishing those in Tartarus who have fallen to the side of evil and sin, at the end of the prayer Uriel bows his head slightly.
Uriel is not one of the much loved angels amungst his kind, he is a force that shows mankind that God is not always merciful and forgiving, he shows that, towards his enemies and those who rise against him, God will give no leiway, he will smite his enemies and those who rally with them. Uriel is also the one who tortours the sinful and faithless in a pit of Hell named Tartarus, been so close to the domain of Lucifer and given a job so cruel there are some who whisper that Uriel at times seems more demon than angel. At these comments the angel just smiles, his faith in his Lord is strong, he on ly punishes those who have been delivered to him by Sariel upon their death. He does not kill or harm the innocent.
When the rows of pews are empty Uriel walks slowly towards the alter in front of a crusified Christ, kneels down on one knee and makes another small pray, then stands and turns to look down the aisle, a faint glow eminating from his body.

As the pastor spoke out, his flock listened attentively, joining in the closing hymn. It was times like this where the lost sheep could band together, that he felt there was hope for them yet. The brunette sitting toward the back let his voice ring out alongside the mortals, raising his song to the skies to pray for a quick end to the campaign of the Morningstar.
Truth be told, Zerachiel felt at home among the parishioners here in the cathedral, but he had to wonder how many of them knew of Lucifer's return--or how many of them would repent falsely to save their own skins...not that he wouldn't still help them if they asked for it, but it would, of course, need to be sincere. Shrouded in his thoughts, he didn't seem to notice as the rest of the congregation filed out of the cathedral and returned back to their normal lives, still sitting in the pews. "Poor children of Adam..." He whispered quietly under his breath, the hushed sounds echoing across the stone walls.

For a moment the skin on the back of his neck tingles a little, his mind feeling the presence of another of his kind, he probably hadn't sensed the angel before due to there been so many humans around. Slowly Uriel looks around to find out which of the angels has come down into the cathedral. Ah Zerachiel, an angel like himself, trying to bring humans back onto the right path of faith in the Lord. For a moment Uriel thinks about shedding his mortal appearance, but decides against it incase a human or half-breed were to walk through the doors, while a pastor may be able to handle the shock of seeing an angel in its full glory a human would not, at least not when done so up front.
With a small smile Uriel makes his way towards Zerachiel. "Good morning Zarachiel, nice to see you here. It's been a while since I have seen any of our people in this building, which is strange I would have thought they would be here. I have met Sariel and Michael, the latter seems to be getting very agitated what with Lucifer walking the earth and the presence of demons becoming stronger, frankly I think he's just itching for a fight. Some of our kin are far too... soft on mankind, I've found that sometimes all they need is a little push to set them down the fight path. They know nothing of Lucifer's return, it is up to us to show them the way to salvation".

Uriel's voice seemed to bring the man out of his contemplation, glancing upward to the man. "Ah, Uriel. I didn't think you were here. It's good to see you again." He smiled, about to speak when Uriel mentioned the two archangels. "Hmm...Michael means well, but he goes about things the wrong way. Discretion can be the better part of valor." Indeed, he tended to think the same of Uriel from time to time. Humankind did need a push.. However, to assume that they didn't need as much help as they did motivation was a bit of a faulty assumption. They weren't at all aware of the subtle machinations of demons. Perhaps, he too was soft, then.
"You're right. It's up to us to bring them back to the light." He nodded, standing and using one hand to steady himself by the pew. However, he felt slightly uncomfortable, if for no other reason than Uriel's willingness to overlook those who have sinned. Sometimes the people who need help the most never know it until after it's too late, or worse, never look for it. "Speaking of the demons...I've not seen any make themselves known yet. They're not being quite as brazen as I expected."

"Both Sariel and Michael think that our presence has no large influence on the minds of humans, If we play no large part in the decisions humans make whether to lead a life of faithfulness and charity or one of sinning and debourchery then what is the point of us been down here at all? To fight demons, anyone could do that, a human with an enchanted weapon or granted powers could do it. No, we must be here as part of their lives because it is us who are to steer them towards Heaven".
"I'm glad that someone agrees with me, Michael went as far as to say that I appear more demon than angel in the ways that I cary out of duties. In Tartarus I see the worst of the worst, they come to me; the murderers, rapists, wife beaters, child abusers... they all come to me and Michael says that I take too much pleasure. They are the scum of the earth, they deserve only what I give them".
Uriel watches Zerachiel stand, noting his slight discomfort. "Demonds are making themselves known, they're just doing it ways that are more human-like ways. So far they're not using their big powers, instead using mainly mind control and manipulation which is odd for them, usually they're ones for big bombastic shows of power. It may be an attemp on their part to stay low, but it's doing the opposite by making others speculate what they could be up to. There's is something going on, something bigger than this war".

"If we held no sway in the hearts of humans, this entire war would be rather pointless, because of God giving the humans free will. They would make the choices on their own, and neither the demons, nor we would have any effect.." He shook his head lightly. If that was how they thought, then perhaps their place was better in Heaven--since they claim their efforts futile here, other than returning the Demons back to their home in Hell. "Though, to Sariel's defense, he may be so far removed from humanity that he focuses only on his job. Strange thought, I guess..I can't imagine being anywhere else than among the people. They need us."
The demons he had known were always prone to acts of wanton destruction or subtle manipulation...both of which had the same end result if they were discovered. "I agree, but we have no way of knowing what they're after...I'm more worried about the people than I am the demons. Could you imagine what would happen if the demons took hold? If the humans found out about what goes on every night?"

"I agree. What is the point of us been here if it is not to bring the hearts and minds of mankind back into the life they are meant to have". "I see Sariel when he brings the damned souls to the brink of Hell, he tries to comfort them and make them feel better when there is no point, they have lead a life of sin and now they must suffer the consequences of their actions. It may seem cruel but that's how it works. I don't understand how some of the other angels can be so far removed from interacting with humans, they sit up in Heaven watching and complaining but refuse to do anything about the problems".
"Humans are not ready to find out that creatures such as ouselves truely exist, there are only a select few who we can show ourselves to". Uriel glances back at the cross behind him. "There are these people though, they have the powers of demons and angels but are not either. They are the offspring of a union between a human with a demon or angel. Zarachiel these people are speciel, I fear that Lucifer will try to get to them, use trickery and lies to draw them onto his side. We cannot let that happen".

""For those who seek atonement, I take on their sins. That's the nature of what I do, Uriel. Am I flawed as well?...Ironically, so many angels are obsessed with their demon counterparts instead of humans they are supposed to be protecting." Zerachiel gave a small nod. Even with his extensive interactions with the humans, he tried to keep his divinity a secret for the most part--going around with wings unfurled would paint multiple targets upon his back, as it would with any angel. However, when he had unveiled it, it had never failed to astonish those in his care. These people would typically stare in awe that an angel came to their aid, or horror that the judgment of an angel had come upon them.
"Ah..we should act fast, then. After all, they are likely confused about the nature of their powers, which can be used against them, drawn into the web of deceit that many demons cast." Surely, to make them aware of what they were would be easy enough, right? Zerachiel would be overtaken by a white, iridescent light that emanated from his body, pouring over his now changing features. Ebon-colored wings would pierce the holy light, taking full span and dispelling it completely. As the light extinguished, Zerachiel was fully transformed, clad in what appeared to be the tabard of a medieval-period English noble. "That's better."

"No you are not, for you are trying to bring those who have strayed back onto the path, unlike ourselves most angels are happy and willing to sit back and do nothing to bring those people back, they watch and do nothing perhaps thinking that it is not worth their time to do so. How fortunate that I cannot think of a demon counterpart for myself, I torture and punish the wicked, what demon could do the oppsosite of that?". A few times since he was stationed in Tartarus by God has Uriel been approached by demons wishing to learn methods of torture and ways of causing harm from him, on all occasion Uriel has refused and cast the demons away. Every time he is down there he cannot help but wonder when Lucifer himself will come to him and ask for his service.
"Yes they will be, these are mostly people who have lived a normal life since the day they were born, and now quite suddenly latent powers have been awoken in them. There have been a few who I have spoken to who simply refuse to believe what is happening to them and nothing you do, not even showing them their powers or your own, will convince them otherwise, it is these people that will be taken in by the demons". Uriel doesn't bat an eyelash as Zarachiel changes into his immortal form. "Since you have, it would onyl be fitting that I follow suite".
Uriels change is less showy than Zarachiels; there is a simple flash of light that washes over him. When the light is gone Uriel's form has changed little save a set of black and white wings, a highly polished metal breastplate, arm guards and shin guards, his flaming swords and energy shield not needed at the moment. Smiling Uriel spreads out his wings, then folds them back up agaisnt his back. "It's nice to be in this form, sometimes I feel so weak in my mortal form".

Zerachiel gave a small nod to his fellow angel as he took on his divine form, stretching out his wings and arms. It had been too long since he spread his wings. "Weak, friend? I can't say I agree. The human spirit is something to be admired when they grow determined about something. Weak in stature, not in will. The demons who prey on humanity often challenge everything they know, seek to harm those they care about, and to completely alienate their target." Of course, Zerachiel felt at home among the humans, though, granted he was not one of them. He would give anything to save a man in need.
He glanced about, still seeing that no one was back here --yet, which was bound to change the longer they stayed there, a natural risk of what they were."Well, perhaps we should depart soon as well. Evil never rests, after all. So we have to be vigilant in return to make sure that humanity is given the chance it deserves to prosper without interruption."

"The human spirit may start off strong but through trials and hardship that spirit can be broken down; should a mans job be terminated, his marriage broken or a loved one lost, then his spirit can be shattered and he becomes a target for the demons and vices of sin". "It is our duty to rebuild that spirit and make it strong once more. I beleive that humans can become better than what they already are, it's just that I think they need to be given some pushes to get them moving towards that goal. If that means getting myself involved with them somehow then so be it, I'd rather be with them making change happen than up there sitting on my ass watching for something to happen".
"Yes perhaps we should, there are many things to do and many things that are stepping up to stop us from doing our jobs. We must forever be on our guard and forever on watch for demonic activity". "I have faith in all of us, that we will do what is right and that this will end the right way".
